The little guide · By Dr. Baby
Build a hospital bag around your own needs
Use the three sections for your essentials, the trip home with your baby and your support person. Check what your hospital or birth center supplies before buying duplicates. Policies about food, visitors, photography and personal equipment differ by location.
What belongs on the list?
Think through arrival, your stay and departure. Keep identification, contact details and birth preferences accessible. Pack personal comforts and a practical going-home outfit. Add transport arrangements and anything needed for a sibling, pet or dependent at home. The starter list is a convenience, not a medical equipment list.
A checklist you can actually finish
Mark an item only when it is ready. Add a custom item with a short name and the right category. The progress count is simply packed items divided by all items. Print an unchecked copy for a helper, or export your current status. Browser storage is device-specific, so take a copy before switching phones. The linked NHS list is a UK reference; confirm what applies at your US birth location.
